Prior Degrees and Pre-arrival Calendar
Recognition of your prior degree or education in the Czech Republic
In case you want to enroll in a degree program at any university in the Czech Republic, and your prior education was in another country, you will need to have your prior degree/education formally recognized. Within the enrollment period (in September or February), you must submit the documents that prove it (results of the recognition procedure).
The procedure of prior degree recognition is called an Recognition of Foreign Higher Education and Qualifications, commonly known as nostrifikace in Czech, and you obtain an official certificate at the end, which enables you to enroll at any Czech university. The Czech Republic has signed a number of international agreements, so for some countries, there is a simplified procedure, or at least you do not need to submit legalized or apostilled copies.
If you want to enroll in a Bachelor degree, you will have to do the Recognition of Secondary School Education at an regional authority (full details) - read also this basic file: Recognition of the Secondary School Education - Southern Moravian Region
If you want to enroll in a Master or Doctoral degree, please browse this page and read the detailed information: Recognition of Foreign Higher Education and Qualifications
If your university degree was completed in CR or Slovakia, at enrollment, you submit a notary certified copy of your diploma.
If it was completed in Germany, Slovenia, Poland or Hungary, follow the respective link from the above mentioned website and read the section about Enrollment at MU; you will need to arrange the confirmation of your prior education. This is not the DR as such, it is a pre-agreed formality, for which only final diploma copy is needed.
If you have a prior degree from other country than the above mentioned, then follow the general procedure of DR. Submit your DR request to a university in CR that offers similar degree programs as was your prior study.
If you have to follow the general procedure, please start asap. The procedure may take up to 2 months. Explanations, contacts, forms, and also information about the documents according to countries are given.
Note! From 1 September 2016 on, MU (and other Czech public universities) must charge 3000 CZK for this procedure.
In case you decided to do the DR procedure at MU, then contact the Rectorate colleagues in charge of this procedure (full contacts on the website) in case of questions and then send them the filled-in and signed application form together with the certified or legalized proofs of education to the Office for Studies, Žerotínovo nám. 9, 601 77 Brno, Czech Republic.
Please note. Degree Recognition is only needed by students wishing to register at a Czech university for an entire degree program, but not by visiting or exchange students. We strongly recommend that all degree applicants submit the Degree Recognition together with the application (if possible) or start working on their recognition at the same time as they apply for admission to our degree programs.
