Department of Media Studies and Journalism
The Department of Media Studies and Journalism is among the newest at the School of Social Studies. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a complex view of the issues of media communication, from historical, theoretical, as well as practical perspectives. The courses offer reflection on knowledge, methods and strategies applied in the field of print and electronic media, and part of the study includes training in practical skills connected with media activities – particularly with writing, public performance, photography, film and editing production. The aim of the media studies and journalism programme is to prepare experts who will not only be able to play a role in the field using the latest digital technology (the department has at its disposal a media laboratory, including desktop publishing resources, an audio-visual centre, a digital editing board and a photo-laboratory) but who will also be able to perform qualified analyses and evaluation of various issues of media communication (including its historical, social, economic, legal and psychological contexts and aspects).
