Department of Psychology
The Department of Psychology at the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University was founded in 1998, but its research and educational activities follow the tradition of Brno psychological school formerly developed at the Faculty of Arts. In particular, it focuses on the fields of psychology of cognitive processes, social psychology, developmental psychology, psychology of personality, psychotherapy, psychological methodology, and different topics of applied psychology. Members of department participated in international projects regarding psycho-social development of adolescents, in several projects dealing with educational and instructional task of the school, and projects dealing with the problems concerning family life and partner relationships. In regard to the social psychology, a long-term research interest is focused on psychological and social characteristics of children, youth, and their families. Further relevant research projects have been focused on different aspects of social life (e.g. social representations of democracy, social responsibilities, trust, gender stereotypes, identity and self-development). Recently, the influence of computers, the Internet and related technologies on the individual, family and society are analyzed .

Additional Information
The Department of Psychology offers university education at all three levels – from Bachelor degree programme in Psychology, through Master’s degrees in Psychology and Psychotherapy, to Ph.D. for the scholars who want to pursue academic career. The Department of Psychology cooperates with numerous institutions in the Czech Republic and worldwide in teaching as well as research projects.
