More than 60 teachers and lecturers at eight faculty departments offer courses aimed at non-specialist language learners in English, German, French, Spanish and Russian focusing on academic and specific/professional language skills in Bachelor, Master and Doctoral programmes in full-time and combined modes. In addition, Latin language and Latin terminology are taught at Faculties of Law, Medicine and Arts. The Centre also offers courses of Czech language and Czech terminology for specific/professional purposes for foreign students (Faculty of Medicine) and provides Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) courses in foreign language in cooperation with the Faculties of Law and Social Studies.
In 2006, when the new Masaryk University Language Education System was adopted and the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) was implemented in all MU language courses, the Language Centre gained a new aim to engage in activities and projects that enhance the developmentof language teaching and learning appropriate to the needs of the various Faculties of the University, namely to provide an innovative learner-centred environment, to promote both independent and collaborative language learning opportunities, and to support the application of information and communication technologiesin language learning.
