Department of Sociology
The Department of Sociology at Masaryk University in Brno dates back to 1921, making it one of the oldest sociology institutes in Europe. Our teaching is focused on important social problems of today's world, whether it is social stratification, inequality and poverty, societies' political and social transformations, civil society and public opinion, population studies, or the status of ethnic minorities or other marginalized groups. Currently, the Department offers four fields of study: Cultural Sociology (in English only), Sociology, Gender Studies, and Social Anthropology.
