From Brno to Sweden: Strengthening Collaboration with Dalarna University

At the end of April, the Department of Social Policy and Social Work welcomed a nine-member delegation from Dalarna University in Sweden (Department of Business Administration and School of Culture and Society). The two-day program took place partly at the Faculty of Social Studies and partly at the Faculty of Economics and Administration at Masaryk University.

The meeting had a unique character—it was not an individual visit, but rather an open space for sharing, discussion, and joint planning, with full teams from both institutions actively involved. In addition to presenting research projects and academic programs, participants also engaged in a brainstorming session on opportunities for teaching, internships, and future collaboration.

The program also included a discussion with our master’s students about opportunities to study at Dalarna University through the Erasmus+ program. The entire visit was funded through this scheme.

The meeting led to several concrete outcomes. “We agreed to expand the existing Erasmus agreement to include PER programs (both bachelor’s and master’s), covering both students and faculty. We also discussed the possibility of organizing a joint Blended Intensive Program (BIP) for students in 2026. There was an exchange of experiences related to practical and analytical internships in Swedish, Czech, and other international settings—including the challenges involved. Last but not least, we agreed on specific teaching mobilities for the upcoming period and opened a discussion on potential joint research projects,” said Blanka Plasová from the Department of Social Policy and Social Work.

This meeting was the first of its kind—and the collaboration will now continue to develop based on the thematic interests of the individual participants and teams.

The department extends its thanks to everyone involved in the preparation and implementation of the visit and looks forward to the next steps in this international collaboration.
