An awards ceremony, plenty of fun and sports activities, and great food – on Wednesday, April 22, the traditional Faculty Day took place, which was even more sustainable this year thanks to new reusable deposit cups.
A new feature of this year’s Faculty Day were the reusable cups - for an upfront deposit - in a stylish FSS MUNI design, which helped reduce the use of single-use plastics. Students also quickly took a liking to the faculty-themed stickers.
As this is every year, Faculty Day had an excellent atmosphere. The sunny Wednesday in April began with the presentation of the I. A. Bláha Awards and the Dean’s Awards.
The recipients of the 2026 Dean’s Awards at the Faculty of Social Studies were announced on April 22, 2026, during Faculty Day. Nominations are typically submitted by heads of departments or research units, and the selection takes into account academic performance, extracurricular activities, publication output, and—in the case of teaching awards—course evaluation results. So who were this year’s awardees?
Before the auditorium was transformed into badminton courts following the awards’ the ceremony program, Dean Stanislav Balík held a discussion with attendees about developments at the Faculty.
This was followed by sports activities, which included table tennis and badminton tournaments. The sporting program concluded with the popular stair run.
The Inocenc Arnošt Bláha Scholarship is awarded annually for outstanding bachelor’s theses, nominated by the heads of departments for each degree program. Inocenc Arnošt Bláha was a Czech sociologist, educator, and humanities scholar. In 1931, he became the Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Masaryk University. This year’s award ceremony took place on April 22nd as part of Faculty Day. So who are this year’s award recipients?
Throughout the event, attendees could also enjoy foosball, a prize wheel, an airbrush station with stylish temporary tattoos, and a popcorn stand. Outside the Faculty, hot grills offered sausages, a meat-free curry, and a salad bar. Refreshments were provided by taps serving lemonade and non-alcoholic beer, all with the help of the academic staff.

This year’s First Steps with FSS event took place on a Monday for the first time. Despite the hot June weather, the event welcomed the highest number of admitted students in its history on June 22. Guided by their future classmates, participants had the opportunity to learn what they could expect if they studied at the Faculty of Social Studies.
This year’s Dies Academicus took place on a sunny Thursday, May 21st. The traditional academic ceremony, which includes the presentation of Masaryk University Rector’s Awards and Masaryk University Medals, was held in the Karel Engliš Grand Auditorium at the Faculty of Law.
