Access to Classrooms Now by Card Instead of Key

The faculty has recently installed electronic locks in classrooms, lecture halls, and doctoral student offices. These spaces are now unlocked simply by tapping a card. The system works in the same way as on the second and fifth floors, where electronic locks have been in place for some time.

Doctoral offices are accessible only to their assigned users. Classrooms and lecture halls are accessible to all employees by using their ITIC or MUNI staff card. Students may use their ISIC (valid even without the annual revalidation sticker) or their standard student ID card, whether they are enrolled in a full-time or combined study program. External instructors will also be able to borrow access cards, which are managed by departmental assistants.

Employees who do not yet have an active card may continue using a physical key, which can be borrowed from the reception desk. At the same time, the Faculty management encourages everyone to update their ID cards—requests for new cards can be submitted to Eva Dopplerová, Head of the HR Department.

The new access system applies uniformly to all classrooms, including rooms P31, P51, and the auditorium. In these spaces, the use of classroom computers has also changed: the small locked cabinets are no longer used, and the Mini PC is now placed directly under the monitor.

“This change is not only about unlocking doors, but also about how we use our classrooms. During breaks, students no longer have to wait for their instructors in the hallway and immediately vacate the classroom at the end of class. Instead, they can remain inside during breaks. We hope this will reduce the undignified crowding and waiting in the corridors,” said Dean Stanislav Balík.

The new locks also allow doors to be blocked from the inside. This can be activated using a button, latch, or key—the procedure is always described in the instructions posted near each door. For example, pressing the “door block” button cuts power to the reader, so access by card is disabled, though exiting the room remains possible. Returning the button to its original position reactivates the reader.

Please note that there may be a short delay between scanning a card and unlocking the door, especially in rooms P31, P51, and the auditorium. Proper handling helps extend the lifespan of the equipment and reduces the risk of malfunctions.

Electronic access can also be linked to attendance records in the Information System. Those interested should contact Bc. Anna Jedličková.

The new system will be evaluated after one month of operation and adjusted as needed. Questions or comments can be sent to vstup@fss.muni.cz.
