Czech students participate in the NATO Model for the first time

24 Feb 2021

From 12 to 14 February of this year, the 36th International Student NATO Model took place. This was the first time it was conducted online, rather than in person in the United States. It was also the first time that the Czech Republic was represented by students from a Czech university - Masaryk University, the Faculty of Social Studies.

Representatives of 25 foreign universities, such as the Université libre de Bruxelles, the University of Birmingham, the University of Michigan, and the London School of Economics, took part in simulations of the Alliance's negotiation and decision-making processes and debates on the challenges facing NATO. The Czech Republic was represented by a team of six FSS students from five countries – the Czech Republic, Georgia, Slovakia, Turkey and Pakistan, demonstrating the diversity of our student body.

We believe that it will be possible to send FSS representatives to the USA for next year's event. An interview with Dr. Barbora Halašková of the Department of International Relations and European Studies, which provided the Czech delegation with a professional base, will soon be available on the pages of the faculty magazine Atrium.
