Experience the Workday Differently: Mindfulness and Well-Being in the Workplace

The last Friday in September was quite different from the usual routine. Ten non-academic women from various faculty offices had the opportunity to slow down, take a deep breath, and recharge for the new academic year.

In the morning, under the guidance of Associate Professor Alena Slezáčková, we immersed ourselves in the world of mindfulness. The topic “How to Find Inner Balance and Perspective in a Fast-Paced World” resonated with everyone—and judging by the enthusiastic reactions, it would seem that calmness and mindful breathing will now have their well-deserved place at FSS.

After the mental cleansing came a physical delight—a shared lunch at the Masaryk University Academic Club, filled with laughter, good food, and a friendly atmosphere.

Since balance takes many forms, the afternoon brought a cultural experience: a walk over Špilberk Hill to the Mendel Museum, with the cherry on top being a special “royal” visit from Queen Eliška Rejčka at the Basilica in Old Brno—a perfect ending to the day.

We headed home around half past three with the feeling that not only had we “switched off” but we had also been ‘recharged’ beautifully.
