Graduation ceremony held in English for the first time

After a one-year break, the Faculty of Social Studies organized a graduation ceremony for graduates from this and last year at the beginning of September. Due to anti-pandemic measures, the organizers had to limit the number of graduates and their guests per group. In order not to rob the graduates' friends and family members of this ceremony, the faculty broadcast all the graduations on its YouTube channel.

Graduates of the programs taught in English had their graduation ceremonies performed entirely in English for the first time this year. Interested graduates could also attend the ceremony online, via the Zoom platform. Their guests were able to watch the event on YouTube as well.

Having the ceremony in English was a novelty for the faculty, which we will want to continue. We tested the transfer of graduations via YouTube outside the auditorium last time when we streamed them to the atrium. This time, anyone with the appropriate link could watch the ceremony.

"This kind of hybrid form of the graduation ceremony, where some active participants connect via the Internet, is something that Covid-19 made us learn. We wanted as many graduates as possible to take part in the ceremonial presentation of diplomas and the graduation pledge, there was no reason to let the pandemic limit us in this," said Adéla Souralová, Vice-Dean for Education.

A total of 161 bachelors and 155 recent masters received their diplomas from the hands of the highest representatives of the faculty and the university. In the English-language programs, 19 graduates participated in person and 2 online, one student from Greece and one student from California.

"I would not miss the graduation for anything in the world. I am glad that I can participate like this from a distance," said Carolyn Reichert, a graduate of the International Relations and European Politics program from 2020, just before the event from her home in California, USA.
