The MUNI Scientist Award, which is a competition category of GAMU, is awarded by the Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Studies Šárka Pospíšilová. The aim is to recognize significant scientific achievements, to boost the motivation of the University's scientific staff, and to spread the good name of Masaryk University in the scientific community and among the public. Among the scientists awarded this year are two political scientists from the Faculty of Social Studies.

Miriam Matejova received the MUNI Scientist Award for her paper, Embracing the Darkness: Methods for Tackling Uncertainty and Complexity in Environmental Disaster Risks, co-authored with Chad M. Briggs of the University of Alaska.  The article was published in the academic journal Global Environmental Politics this February and explores scenarios and simulations that can help scientists identify, evaluate, and communicate solutions to complex problems and risks.

The second recipient is Miloš Gregor, who received the award for his contribution to the publication Political Communication and COVID-19: Governance and Rhetoric in Times of Crisis, where he was one of the editors. He collaborated on the book, which was published in March this year, with other scholars from the UK, Italy, and the United States. The book compares and analyses political communication responses to the outbreak and the spread of COVID-19 in 27 countries, the European Union, and the World Health Organization. Among other things, factors were identified that influenced people's willingness to comply with the preventative measures.

Congratulations and we wish you both many more successes.
