When I came to Brno I didn’t know which places to visit or what to do in the city, but as time went by I became more familiarized with the city and many of these places became my favorites and the places I would go to the most.

Here are some of my favorite spots and what you can do on them:

Petrov

If you want to relax and have a beer while enjoying the beauty of the city at night, Petrov is the place to be. It’s close to the stop Šilingrovo náměstí, you can see Spillberk from here and there are several spaces to do a picnic or simply sit on the benches while you watch the sunrise pour all over Brno. Also if there’s any fireworks on the castle this is also a good place to see them.

U Dřevěného vlka

Craving a beer and also food? this place is an amazing choice. From Czech cuisine to pasta and wide selection of beverages will make you feel welcomed. The placed is decorated with drawings and references of wolves, as the restaurant is known like that in English. This is just the place to hang out after class. And if you go make sure to try the colored beer.

Olomouc

Although Olomouc is not Brno, it’s still worth traveling to. All the little towns in the Czech Republic have it´s charm but Olomouc stands out for its peacefulness and beautiful architecture. I got the chance to go last semester and it’s building and colorful scheme left me mesmerized.

The train takes less than 2 hours and in Bus is around 1 hour. If you go be prepared for walking and eating typical czech food as most of the restaurants serve that (although you can always find other types) .

The Military Hospital is also a must for pictures as it used to be the Hradisko Monastery. It looks like anything but a hospital and the Katedrála sv. Václava is the #1 thing you should visit in Olomouc.

Podnebí

Although Brno is full of cafes with amazing coffee and desserts, I feel like Podnebí has the full combo. Good desserts, amazing coffee and savory food.

It so good for studying, especially in the morning when they just opened and the sun pours over the windows and it’s very quiet. You can also study or eat outside in the outskirts of the castle which makes it a good spot to have a coffee amd then go to Spillberk.

Have a picnic in Lužánky!

Lužánky is a park really close to Brno City Theatre, and it’s so big with many events and people coming there, which makes the park perfect for a picnic. There’s so much space and even benches in some parts, fountains and is in a very central place so you can find food easily for the picnic.

The place allows you to play sports or just chill in the grass if you want to!
