A professionalizing touch to my social work career at the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic

Social work aims to support, empower, build, and help people in different communities. However, to perform tasks better as social workers, we need skills that efficiently enable us to deliver our services.

The social work program at Masaryk University offers opportunities to learn and perfect skills in the profession. The diverse expertise of different staff members that address various social issues makes social work studies at Masaryk University a place for everyone to achieve their career goals as social workers.

From Seychelles to Brno: How I found the right PhD program at Masaryk University

After being in practice for some time, seeing the need to offer better services to clients, and getting into research/lecturing, I decided to further my students to gain skills and knowledge that could assist in my career. Masaryk University came up in my search as I searched for universities with professionals focusing on researching children and families. When I glanced through the profiles of the professors, I decided to write to one of them and tell him about my interest in doing a PhD, and I sent a research proposal. He replied, and we set up an online meeting.

I noticed the friendly and welcoming nature of the professors and lecturers in the social work department at Masaryk University. So far, this has enabled me to study comfortably without any stress in the department.

My Experience so far with the PhD Program in Social Work at Masaryk University

The Social Work program offers lots of opportunities for students to learn. I am learning publication and research skills from my supervisor and have opportunities to travel, attend conferences and summer schools, and present my work among international audiences (professors, other PhD students, academicians, etc.).

Traveling for conferences and spring and summer school has enhanced my presentation and public speaking skills. In addition, I have opportunities to participate in teaching as a PhD student both at Masaryk University and in other European Countries through the unique exchange programs offered by Masaryk University.
