The workshop, co-organized by Monika Brusenbauch Meislová from the Department of International Relations and European Studies at Masaryk University and Ed Turner from the Aston Centre for Europe at Aston University in the UK, featured prominent figures from the academic, political, and think-tank sectors. Its aim was to examine current political changes and strengthen relations between Central Europe and the United Kingdom amidst ongoing global challenges.

A key figure at the workshop was Matt Field, the British Ambassador to the Czech Republic, who shared his perspective on the development of relations between the two regions. "We spent two days at Masaryk University discussing the UK's relations with Central Europe in the context of the upcoming European Parliament and US elections, the war in Ukraine, and bilateral cooperation. I am grateful for the stimulating exchange, great atmosphere, and new insights," stated one of the academic participants.

The workshop covered a broad spectrum of topics, including enduring economic partnerships, defense cooperation, and shared challenges faced by both sides. With a focus on the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine, discussions on defense cooperation took on a new dimension.

In addition to academic presentations and panel discussions, participants engaged in interactive group sessions designed to enhance collaboration and foster deeper discussions on specific topics.

The second day of the workshop continued with an informal working lunch, providing students the opportunity to directly interact with leading experts and contribute to the future of bilateral relations.

Feedback from participants was very positive, highlighting the success and significance of the event. Participants appreciated the inspirational meeting and the opportunity to engage in discussions about the future of relations between Central Europe and the United Kingdom.
