Popis | Teams engage in knowledge-intensive work to solve new organizational problems. It has long been considered that their performance improves as teams get better in knowledge creation, knowledge sharing, and unlearning. However, based on a generative model of routine dynamics we hypothesize that these knowledge practices not only correlate with team performance but also represent necessary conditions for achieving high levels of it. To test these hypotheses, we applied the Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA) method to a sample of 338 members of knowledge-intensive teams. Our findings support the necessity of team-level knowledge sharing and unlearning while providing counterevidence for the necessity of team-level knowledge creation. This paper offers new insights into relations between the performance of knowledge-intensive teamwork and knowledge practices, contributes to a generative model of routine dynamics, and provides recommendations for leaders of knowledge-intensive teams. |
