| Popis | Active inference has been increasing in popularity during the last decade. Originally stemming from computational neuroscience, it slowly reaches psychology and psychotherapy research. The framework has several advantages, making it a candidate for a unifying framework in psychotherapy integration endeavors. Method: Systematic review mapped literature discussing psychotherapy processes within the active inference framework. The described mechanisms were sorted into several common factors. Results: 22 eligible studies were included in the review, and nine common factors were identified (therapeutic alliance, mindfulness, mentalization, cognitive restructuring, a new narrative about self, insight, desensitization, corrective emotional experience, and client feedback). Conclusion: Active inference offers a new way of looking at the psychotherapy process. Although the framework’s popularity is increasing, studies often do not fully utilize its strengths (notably, the mathematical apparatus). |
