| Popis | This paper examines whether intentions of young adults aged 18–35 to leave the parental home vary by age in the Czech Republic, a super-homeownership regime with a minimal social rental sector and high dependence on intergenerational asset transfers (Lux and Sunega, 2023). While parental financial support in housing trajectories is well documented (Lux, Sunega and Kážmér, 2018), the age dimension of leaving-home intentions remains underexplored. Fertility research shows that family size intentions adjust downwards with age (Liefbroer, 2009); this paper asks whether a similar dynamic characterises residential intentions. Following Schwanitz, Rampazzo and Vitali (2021), who examined leaving-home intentions by country, gender and age across twelve European countries using GGS data, this paper brings the age dimension to the within-country level. The analysis examines whether intentions differ by age group, who realised them and who did not, and what role partnership formation, employment entry and parental support play. The findings contribute to debates on intergenerational dependence in Czech housing (Hoření Samec and Kubala, 2024). |
