Internationalization in full swing

Thanks to the easing of anti-pandemic measures and the return to the contact form of teaching, the internationalization activities planned for the autumn semester have been expanded. Monthly meetings with international students have resumed and besides, discussions on specialized topics and current events in English were organized. As reported in the university's M magazine, the Faculty of Social Studies has the second-highest number of students enrolled in English language degree programmes.

October, workshops were also organized in both English and Czech that focused on the promotion and spread of information about the mobility programmes available to students. On 15 October, a webinar entitled "The Landscape of Disasters - Social Policy and Social Work Practice" was organized with the partner, Charles Sturt University. On behalf of FSS, colleagues from the Department of Social Policy and Social Work (KSPSP) and the Department of Environmental Studies participated in the organization and preparations for the event. The head of KSPSP doc. Kateřina Kubalčíková contributed by giving a presentation.

Barbecue and hike to Veveří
In September, we organized a barbecue in the park at Špilberk, which was attended by 120 foreign students. In October, a walking and boat trip to Veveří Castle took place. It was attended by 22 students. The above-mentioned activities have two main purposes - to get to know the students better, to interconnect them and to learn more about their experience so far, and also to facilitate experiences that will support the growth of the attractiveness of FSS and MU. Two Erasmus students are already considering applying for one of our Master's programs.

Pre-election discussion
At the beginning of October, the Department of Political Science (KPOL) and the Department of International Relations and European Studies (KMVES) organized a debate on the elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. This meeting was highly appreciated by international students, since it can be difficult for them to find information in English on such current events, as foreign media do not pay much attention to them. Many thanks to Prof. Lubomír Kopeček and Dr. Otto Eibl from KPOL and Prof. Vít Hloušek from KMVES.

Erasmus days
Sending our students abroad for study and work stays is of great importance for the Faculty and the University. As part of the Erasmus Days, two meetings with students were organized. The English presentation was attended by 30 students and the Czech presentation by another 100. Students were informed about mobility programmes, study abroad opportunities, and application deadlines. They were also assured of the maximum support that their departments will provide in their efforts to gain foreign study or work experience, for example by allowing them to take compulsory courses at the FSS remotely.

International cooperation
On October 15, FSS, in collaboration with colleagues from Charles Sturt University, organized a webinar The Landscape of Disasters - Social Policy and Social Work Practice. The head of the KSPSP, Associate Professor Kateřina Kubalčíková, spoke on behalf of FSS.
