Faculty of Social Studies strives for gender equality and inclusion

At Masaryk University’s Faculty of Social Studies, as well as across the entire university, there is an intensive effort to achieve gender equality and promote inclusion. As part of this initiative, the faculty has engaged in the university's gender audit, which seeks to identify and address the key issues concerning gender equality in the workplace. The audit at FSS is based on data from the personnel, international, study, and project departments.

Masaryk University has committed to taking a responsible approach and, as part of the NPO project, plans to develop a comprehensive strategy for sustainable development by the end of 2024. This plan will be based on the Strategic Plan of MU for the years 2021-2028 and will rest on four main pillars.

Welcome day at FSS

In September, we welcomed 15 new employees who have become an important part of our faculty. These talented individuals come from the Czech Republic as well as from various distant parts of the world greatly enriching multiple departments, including Department of Sociology, Department of Media Studies and Journalism, Department of Social Policy and Social Work, Department of International Relations and European Studies, The Psychology Research Institute and Office for Studies.

Continuing the HR Award process

In April 2023, we successfully completed the first phase of implementation of our HR Award FSS MU Action Plan and submitted a self-assessment and revised action plan according to the certification conditions to the European Commission HR Excellence in Research.

What is the HR Award?

The HR Award is a prestigious award given by the European Commission to research institutions that focus on the quality of human resource management in research and development – HRS4R. We want to link and implement the working conditions and professional development of staff with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.

What will the HR Award bring to the faculty?

Increasing prestige and attractiveness for researchers
Creating the conditions for a more attractive career in research and development
Improving the quality of care for human resources
Favourable conditions for reconciling the work and private life of workers
Transparent recruitment and selection of new employees
International prestige and interconnection of the faculty with a pan-European network of research organizations
Obtaining research funding from international and domestic programmes to support research – preference in programmes of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TACR), HORIZON 2020 and others.
