Some actions are meant to change your life drastically, and choosing a university is indeed one of them. No one can predict the future or the outcomes of your decision. Thus, you are blindly stepping into the new reality. And no matter how difficult that step into the unknown was for me, I would give it a second try without a doubt because this decision changed my life. Masaryk University appeared to be my best choice academically!
Greetings to all my readers, I am Kateryna Omelchenko. Presently I am finishing my first semester in my bachelor’s Global Challenges program at the Faculty of Social Studies. Even though I have only spent 4 months at this wonderful place, I already have plenty of insights and tips to share and shed more light on the studying process. Thus, I would begin with the first steps made for becoming a student at this institution. As a person who always found passion in diverse spheres, attaching myself to one study area felt like self-sabotage. Therefore, the interdisciplinary approach to studying was the primary vector I relied on. To my good fortune, I encountered the Global Challenges program and, by applying, did not lose!
The Global Challenges program is about “making familiar strange”: the combination of political, sociological, and environmental blocks provides a considerable number of approaches for a better understanding of studied materials. The different lenses through which students try to discover new and analyze well-known information help to explore the world’s issues in depth and from multiple perspectives. Acquiring this knowledge is tremendously fascinating, mainly because we need to question our existing worldviews.
Moreover, communicating with professors, who radiate boundless energy for their courses and share it with us, makes us feel even more inspired. Also, the multicultural environment of our group is a significant factor contributing to the development of our studies. If language barrier presents a problem, I want to reassure you that B2 level will be sufficient for your future studies. All international community is understanding and sympathetic. The communication in English became a common and comfortable element and does not cause any inconveniences.
This program is truly unique and meaningful, not only for us - students but for the future of humankind. The growing number of threats and global challenges make people helpless in the face of fear. Therefore, specialists who are able to understand the world around them and address challenges are very much needed.
Of course, not all days are sunny and light. Even though students of the Global Challenges program are sometimes overwhelmed with required assignments and the number of book pages, we find motivation, strange as it may sound, in our studying process. The engaging seminars with discussion, professors who can ignite the light in students’ eyes with profound knowledge, and the cozy environment of the University inspire us to improve. And, of course, the friendly atmosphere that has reigned in our group always helps us to tune in and find aspirations for future accomplishments.
The program of Global Challenges is designed for students eager to research, analyze and discover diverse perspectives. Reading and writing are vital parts of the studying process, and if you ever hear our students complaining about it, just know that we secretly enjoy those peaceful hours. If this program fulfills your interests and curiosity, I suggest submitting your application. This decision definitely changed my life, and I hope it will also resonate with you.
