My favourite things about Energy Policy Studies

I chose to study Energy Policy Studies at FSS because of the multidisciplinary approach of this program. It is a unique course (one of its kind in Central Europe). The course talks about real-life practices, theories, policies and mechanisms that revolve around energy and our day-to-day lives. Energy is the most important commodity! I was also interested in learning about how it is used or manipulated by stakeholders before it reaches the end users. We use energy in everything we do, and it powers our modern society.
I wanted to learn about how states around the world are dealing with or planning to transition from traditional fossil fuel-based electricity and energy sources to cleaner fuels such as Wind and Solar. This course takes you through the fuel cycle to the supply chain of an energy resource, and it provides holistic knowledge about the available sources without being sceptical or pessimistic. The courses are taught to you in a direct and engaging manner to help you gather an unbiased understanding of the topic.
My favourite thing about the course is that it covers each and every aspect of the energy landscape around the world. It not only focuses on the European continent but also talks about the geopolitical aspects and interconnectedness of the energy grid. Energy connects us all, and it is imperative to learn how it affects our daily lives. For example, one of the courses called Electricity Industries, teaches you about how energy resources are converted to electricity, how they reach and how the consumers end up using the electricity.
Similarly, there is a course called Energy and Society, in which we are taught about all the social aspects related to energy consumption patterns, such as energy poverty, energy vulnerability, energy controversies, etc. Energy poverty is an outcome and cause of poverty in the under-developed and developing countries around the world, and it is not widely talked about. I always believed that it is very crucial to learn about these important concepts about energy and our relationship with it, and my masters in EPS has helped me learn about it in more ways than I expected.
