Researchers from the Faculty of Social Studies submitted 48 project proposals to GACR — a significant increase compared to the previous round.

In the annual spring call of the Czech Science Foundation (GACR), which closed on April 3, 2025, a total of 48 proposals involving the Faculty of Social Studies were submitted.

As in previous calls, the majority were standard project proposals (42 in total). In two cases, FSS MUNI participated as a co-applicant, as the proposal was submitted by another institution. In five other cases, the proposals involved collaboration with another one of the MUNI faculties — three were with the Faculty of Law, and one each was with the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Science. In three additional cases, researchers from FSS MUNI coordinated the proposal preparation in cooperation with another research institution.

This year marked the first call for Restart Grants, designed for researchers returning to their careers after a break due to childcare. FSS MUNI submitted two proposals under this program.

Two JUNIOR STAR proposals were also prepared to support excellent research by early-career scholars, along with one POSTDOC INDIVIDUAL FELLOWSHIP – OUTGOING proposal, which, if funded, would enable a two-year research stay at University College London in the United Kingdom. In collaboration with colleagues from Germany (the Hannah Arendt Institute for Totalitarianism Studies, Technische Universität Dresden), a joint Czech-German proposal was also prepared as part of an international project. The proposal will be evaluated by the Czech Science Foundation (GACR) as the Lead Agency.

Compared to the 2025 GACR call, when a total of 27 proposals were submitted from FSS MUNI, this year saw a significant increase in the number of submissions. Nevertheless, thanks to the excellent collaboration with the applicants, all of the proposals were submitted — even ahead of the deadline.

The success rate for standard project proposals submitted by MUNI in the 2025 call was 19.9%. We believe that the success rate in this year’s competition will be at least as high — if not higher — and we wish all applicants the best of luck in the evaluation process.
