Dates of final state exams at FSS MU

Dear friends, dear colleagues,

This email is highly relevant and important particularly for those of you who plan, in this spring semester 2020, to defend their final theses, pass final state exams or apply for a graduate or postgraduate study program at FSS MU.

Please kindly find below a set of measures that I tentatively mentioned in my letter last week and that we are implementing in this context at the faculty level. They are guided by our relentless effort to make your lives easier in your already much-complicated situation.

I strongly believe that these measures will enable all students who wish to do so to finish and defend their Bachelor, Masters or Doctoral theses, successfully pass final state exams or entrance tests for graduate or postgraduate study programs.

Following the extraordinary measures by the Rector, I hereby issue the following

guidelines regarding the dates of the final state exams at all levels of study

and the entrance exams for the follow-up Master’s and Doctoral programmes at the

Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University (FSS MU):

1. In the spring semester 2020, in all fields/programs of the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree studies, there will be two regular dates of the final state exams: the originally-scheduled one between 25 May – 24 June 2020, and the newly-set one between 1 – 30 September 2020. With no limits set, it will be left to the discretion of students to decide which term to choose.
2. In the spring semester 2020, in all fields/programs of the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree studies, deadlines for the submission of the final theses to Diploma Seminars’ homework vaults (odevzdávárna in the MU Information System (IS MU) will be precisely 14 calendar days before the submission deadline of the said theses. Should such a date fall on a public holiday, the deadline shall be the first working day beforehand.
3. In the spring semester 2020, in all fields/programs of the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree studies, the deadlines for the final submission of the final theses are precisely 14 calendar days before the first day of the thesis defence of the given field/programme.
4. In the spring semester 2020, Bachelor’s and Master’s theses are submitted only in electronic version via IS MU both for the May/June and September dates. As such, they do not have to be submitted in print version.
5. In the spring semester 2020, there are two regular dates for the applications for the Doctoral thesis defence: the first one on 22 April 2020 (anticipated defence in June 2020), the second one on 22 July 2020 (anticipated defence in September 2020).
6. There will be two regular dates of entrance exams for the Master’s degree studies: the originally scheduled one in June 2020; the second one in September 2020. The detailed schedule regarding the September date will be issued by the end of May 2020. The deadline for the application submission is the same for both dates: 30 April 2020.
7. There will be two regular dates of entrance exams for the Doctoral degree study. The originally scheduled one in June 2020; the second one in September 2020. The detailed schedule regarding the September date will be issued by the end of May 2020. The deadline for the application submission is the same for both dates: 30 April 2020. The deadline for the thesis project proposal submission is 31 May 2020 (for the June date) and 31 August 2020 (for the September date).
8. Should somebody successfully pass the final state exams in September 2020 and be charged a fee for exceeding the standard period of study, I – as a Dean - will propose a fee waiver.
