Climate Change Education

How can we educate the younger generation for an uncertain future?

25 Sep 2024

At the beginning of September, the Horizon Twinning project, Hopeful and Resilient Perspectives in Climate Change Education to Inspire Action Competence (HARP), started at the Department of Environmental Science. The project is implemented by a consortium that includes Masaryk University, Utrecht University, and Universität Wien. This three-year project, coordinated by Masaryk University, is designed to investigate and improve climate education practices in selected European countries. Its aim is to promote more comprehensive, inclusive, and action-oriented approaches to addressing the climate crisis. At the same time, we seek to provide ways to strengthen learners' emotional resilience and their ability to engage with challenging environmental topics.

Since the project is based on the cooperation of a research team that includes a wide range of stakeholders—from teaching staff and active students to informal educators—we presented the project's goals at the end of August and the beginning of September at Kaprálův Mlýn during the 31st Fair for Environmental Education, 'Education for Hope and Activism.' This event brought together individuals working in environmental education and provided a platform to reflect on how we can effectively educate the younger generation for an uncertain future in the current setting.
