FSS socially responsible, popular and enlightening
Data on "fulfilling the third role" collected last year for the first time showed that all faculty departments regularly, actively, and willingly raised their voices on topics of societal importance, bringing the findings of their academic research and making them accessible not only for the general public but also raising awareness about their respective field of expertise.
This activity took many shapes and forms, but the winged Quod bonum, felix, faustum, fortunatumque sit (May the outcome be good, propitious, lucky and successful) always applied.
Some tips for those who are interested in the knowledge of other disciplines in a digestible form: Jitka Navrátilová from the Department of Social Policy and Social Work prepared a podcast for seniors “How to help each other between generations“.
Lenka Waschková Císařová and Johana Kotišová from the Department of Media Studies and Journalism helped their study reach a broader audience on the server Mediář about the motivations and ethics of journalists in MFDnes, which they had originally done as an excellent academic publication.
Kateřina Lišková presented her research to the American academic audience in her popular lecture “Love and Sex Behind the Iron Curtain”.
Before the elections, political scientist Otto Eibl translated the complex topic of political competition into popular discourse when he spoke in Respekt about Andrej Babiš as the “apostle of normality”.
Martin Vaculík from the Department of Psychology reflected on the relationship between work, our motivation, resilience, and satisfaction on the station Czech Radio Plus.
In the same media, David Šmahel from the Interdisciplinary Research Team on the Internet and Society gave advice to parents on how to talk to their childeren about what they do on the Internet.
Naděžda Johanisová from the Department of Environmental Studies then presented the principles of environmental economics, which she also researches professionally, to a wide audience on the occasion of her review of the new edition of the book Small is Beautiful.
