People of FSS: Mariya Ostrenko

If you've come to have your picture taken for the latest photo collage, you've surely met her. Outside of her part-time job in the Communications Department, she very often takes photos or makes short videos for the faculty or departments. Her name is Mariya Ostrenko, and you'll most often find her with a camera.

Her main responsibilities at FSS are analyses, and web and social media management. It is based on the retrospective evaluation of traffic and views that Mariya adjusts new articles and posts, their length, form, or time of publication. Also, thanks to her efforts, she has recently managed to reach the milestone of 4,000 followers on the faculty’s Instagram page. In addition, Masha, as her friends and family call her, is also preparing everything for a smooth transition of the faculty to the employee portal.

Mariya Ostrenko comes from Kherson, Ukraine, and came to Brno to study gender studies and journalism after completing a one-year language course in Prague. She is currently writing her master’s thesis at the Department of Journalism. “Masha is reliable in every way. She brings any new idea to perfection with her attention to detail. She does not neglect to look at the overall picture at the same time, so everything always fits together beautifully like a colorful mosaic," said Zdenka Savarová, the head of the department, about the talented photographer. “In addition, she often has original ideas and insights, she is fun to work with and thanks to her we also have some flowers in the office. Masha has, as they say, a green thumb, she just makes all the flowers grow beautifully,” she added.

Besides taking photos and taking care of plants of all kinds, Mariya enjoys spending time with her boyfriend and their dog. But she would prefer to be by the sea, which is what she misses the most.

Last but not least, you are reading this text thanks to Masha, since she is the one who takes care of the typesetting and sending out the NeFSSletter to all employees. So next time you read a post on faculty social media, feel free to greet her with a like!
