People of FSS: Who's hiding in the gown of the beadle

The FSS is not only the sum of students and staff but also a building. Keeping the lights on, the toilets working, the water flowing from the taps and not leaking through the walls (at least not for a long time), keeping everything clean - all of this is the responsibility of the FSS Building Management. One of its employees is Pavel Bartoněk.

Mr. Bartoněk has been working at FSS since 1 April 2011, already more than ten years. When he started, it was no April Fool's joke, but truly a blessing for our faculty, because in his person we got a jack of all trades who can handle everything that is needed. He would never deny that he’s just a boy from a village who can make do with little and who can maybe even put together a rocket out of things thrown away at the dump.

Before coming to FSS,  for many years he had worked at Jihomoravksá energetika at the Dukovany substation as an electrician at very high voltages of 20,000 to 440,000 volts, where mistakes and bad decisions are unforgivable. He started as the last installer and was eventually promoted to "foreman", leading a team of about eight people. For a time he also ran his own trucking business with a number of trucks or lorries that consumed 3,500 liters of diesel per week.

He is in charge of many things at the faculty - mainly electrical wiring, plumbing issues, he is also a beadle at ceremonies, and together with his colleagues, he prepares the assembly hall for various occasions. As far as the faculty building is concerned, he has a big dream - to replace the water supply and sewage lines, which were done sloppily during the last reconstruction of the faculty sixteen years ago. And it looks like he will soon see his dream come true because the condition of the stack pipe is becoming unsustainable, as can be seen in the frequent plumbing emergencies.

In his spare time, he devotes his time to his wife, two young daughters, house, and garden, and he loves riding his motorcycle.

"I respect Mr. Bartonek immensely for his skills, willingness, and, above all, the fact that he thinks while he works. He treats the building and its repairs as if he was working on his own house and it shows a lot - both in terms of the result and the money saved on external services. I am happy that we have people like him working for us," says Stanislav Balík, Dean of the Faculty.
