“The greatest challenge? In the best sense of the word, it’s about working with people. Everyone is set up differently, with different expectations and needs, and my job is to "tune in" to others so that we can work together to solve whatever needs to be done.”

Anna Ward, assistant at the Department of Psychology

What does your ideal morning look like?
I’m more of a bat by nature, so any morning is vastly improved simply by the absence of an alarm clock. When I do have to get up, it’s nice if it’s not too early, and if there’s some adventure waiting for me that day to motivate me. At best, it’s a hotel breakfast when I’m traveling around Europe, or if I’m lucky, it’s teaching Breton dances at an out-of-town dance festival.

What book(s) have you recently read and would recommend?
Last year, I discovered the fantasy sagas by Sarah J. Maas. I first came across her most famous series, ACOTAR, but I was even more drawn to the Throne of Glass saga, which kept me occupied for most of the year. It’s a classic high fantasy for avid readers, as it consists of eight volumes, each ranging from 400 to 1000 pages. I’m lucky to have a 40-kilometer train commute to work every day, so I have plenty of time to read.

What do you look forward to most in your workday?
I always feel happy when I manage to make someone’s life easier. I also enjoy seeing concrete results and that the solved problems are behind me.

What has surprised you most in the past six months?
That the term "millennial" is no longer used to refer to the young generation, but rather to people who have back pain and may even be starting to need reading glasses.

What is your favorite place at the faculty?
On a few rare occasions, I’ve made it to the rooftop, which offers a fantastic view. On a daily basis, though, it’s our office, where my colleague Marešová and I recently rearranged the furniture, and now it feels quite cozy.

What advice would you give to your student self?
She should boldly live in the present moment, with the time and energy she has right now because each stage of life only happens once. It won’t get any easier from here. And she should focus on exactly the things she’s most passionate about because that’s the right way to do it.
