New Sustainability Strategy at FSS MUNI

What new initiatives will sustainability bring to FSS? Starting in 2026, FSS MUNI will implement a new Sustainability Strategy. The goal of the Sustainability Working Group was to ensure that the strategy goes beyond mere words and focuses above all on practical solutions that will have a tangible impact on everyday life at the faculty.

Close relationships are a natural part of human life – they also arise in academia, where people meet while studying, working, and conducting research. While many of them enrich the university environment, others can lead to difficult situations and conflicts of interest. FSS Employees Trained for Emergency Situations Under the Supervision of Experts

On Friday, October 24, another first aid training course took place as part of FSS’s ongoing effort to prepare employees for emergency situations. In cooperation with the Czech Red Cross in Blansko, we organized a Basic First Aid Course attended by 25 participants.

The last Friday in September was quite different from the usual routine. Ten non-academic women from various faculty offices had the opportunity to slow down, take a deep breath, and recharge for the new academic year.

Staff Outing to Podyjí National Park

On the second Friday of September, we had the chance to set aside our daily duties and join the non-academic colleagues for a staff trip to Podyjí National Park. Nearly forty employees took part in the trip, and although the morning in Brno began with light rain, the weather soon cleared up, allowing us to enjoy the planned ten-kilometer circuit.

As part of the Faculty Day held on 8 April 2025, a questionnaire survey focusing on sustainability at the Faculty of Social Studies was officially launched. Sustainability is currently one of the key themes supported by Masaryk University, which has its own strategy, Sustainable MU 2025–2028

Gender Equality at MU

Masaryk University has approved a new Gender Equality Plan MU 2025–2028, which builds on European and national strategies for gender equality. The plan focuses on nine key areas, including fostering an inclusive environment, work-life balance, transparent recruitment, supporting women in science, and preventing gender-based violence.

Faculty of Social Studies strives for gender equality and inclusion

At Masaryk University’s Faculty of Social Studies, as well as across the entire university, there is an intensive effort to achieve gender equality and promote inclusion. As part of this initiative, the faculty has engaged in the university's gender audit, which seeks to identify and address the key issues concerning gender equality in the workplace. The audit at FSS is based on data from the personnel, international, study, and project departments.

Masaryk University has committed to taking a responsible approach and, as part of the NPO project, plans to develop a comprehensive strategy for sustainable development by the end of 2024. This plan will be based on the Strategic Plan of MU for the years 2021-2028 and will rest on four main pillars.

The first aid course was very interactive

As part of our effort to learn how to save lives in crisis situations, we organized two sessions of the Basic First Aid Course in cooperation with the Czech Red Cross Blansko. The first session took place on 21 May and attracted many participants.

Implementation of the HR Award action plan

We are pleased to have conducted a faculty training session for non-academic staff supervisors, focusing on conducting behavioral interviews as part of the recruitment process at FSS. The course took place on 17 May 2024, led by Mgr. Barbora Bělová from TLC, and was met with great interest and positive feedback from participants. Thank you.

Welcome day at FSS

In September, we welcomed 15 new employees who have become an important part of our faculty. These talented individuals come from the Czech Republic as well as from various distant parts of the world greatly enriching multiple departments, including Department of Sociology, Department of Media Studies and Journalism, Department of Social Policy and Social Work, Department of International Relations and European Studies, The Psychology Research Institute and Office for Studies.

The protection of rights at MUNI and submissions aimed at the protection of rights are handled at MUNI by the University-wide Rights Protection Office

On 1 April 2023, the University-wide Rights Protection Office was established at MUNI. It ensures that rights at MUNI are protected effectively, impartially, and efficiently, and that accessible assistance is provided, as well as protection for whistleblowers and victims of infringements of these rights, as well as for persons against whom reports are made.

Continuing the HR Award process

In April 2023, we successfully completed the first phase of implementation of our HR Award FSS MU Action Plan and submitted a self-assessment and revised action plan according to the certification conditions to the European Commission HR Excellence in Research.

Behavioural Interviewing

The May days at FSS were full of educational days not only for students but also for academic staff. As part of the implementation of the HR Award action plan, training sessions were conducted under the title Behavioural Interviewing.

The Faculty of Social Studies at MU has been awarded the HR Award

Our faculty has received the HR Award certification which the European Commission gives to research institutions that are pushing towards an international and transparent work environment in line with international science trends (HRS4R).

The survey will be conducted in two phases – in the first phase (26 February–6 March), academic staff will be surveyed; in the second phase (9–20 March), administrative staff will be surveyed.
