Popis The book provides a comprehensive analysis of public spending and its political and societal implications in two CEE countries building on solid empirical material and unique datasets. We examine the politically biased distribution of public resources in two countries, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and the public response to such spending. Using large-N datasets and a set of population survey experiments we demonstrate that various strategies of public money distribution lead to different acceptance of such practices by the public. The book shows how people respond to allocation of public resources in respect to fairness (or its absence) of the process, the provided benefits, and the framing of the beneficiaries. We also show how pork-barrel politics affects political trust as the overall political support in political representatives.
